Improving the drought resilience of mixed farming enterprises

Vic Drought Hub - Farmland 1
  • Southern Farming Systems

To use satellite monitoring of groundcover to help farmers make informed decisions about when to use containment feeding.

Building on the “trigger points” project led by Riverine Plains, this project will use the satellite monitoring platform from the soon to be completed NLP2 project (led by SFS, with Fed Uni and CiboLabs) that has calibrated pasture cover estimations in the high rainfall zone (Vic, SA, Tas). This satellite monitoring of ground cover will be used to inform farmer decision “trigger points” on containment feeding decisions

This is a Cross Hub Project, led by Southern Farming Systems, also involving Riverine Plains, BCG, MacKillop Farm Management Group (SA), Derwent Catchment Improvement Group (TAS)
