Australian agricultural production value should top $88 billion in 2024-25 – a rise of $6 billion and the second highest value ever if realised, according to ABARES’ December 2024 quarter forecasts.

When fisheries and forestry are included, total production value of $94.3 billion is expected – also a near record.

Key points out of the December Agricultural Commodities and Australian Crop reports include:

  • Livestock and livestock product values to rise as strong demand and prices increase turn-off.
  • Crop production values up slightly as higher than expected production outweighs falling prices.
  • Agricultural export values to fall by 2% on the back of falling crop export values.
