  • Have you ever wondered whether it is possible to capture solar energy at the same time as growing crops?
  • This is an emerging area of technology called agrivoltaics. It offers growers more cost-effective energy in addition to some of the benefits of protected cropping.
  • This field walk is your opportunity to learn and see agrivoltaics in action at the University of Melbourne’s Dookie Campus, where solar panels were integrated into the existing vineyard.

When: Thursday, 27th March, 3.30pm to 5.30pm

Where: University of Melbourne Dookie Campus, 940 Dookie-Nalinga Road, Dookie College, 3647

Presentations in the vineyard:

  • Chris Barnes (Senior Lecturer, Uni Melbourne) and Billy Xynas (Lecturer, Uni Melbourne) – “History and current operations of the Dookie Campus vineyard”
  • Sabine Tausz-Posch (Senior Lecturer, Uni Melbourne) – “Farming the sun twice: Why solar and crop production could be the perfect match”
  • Veli Marks (Env.Manager & Training Facilitator, Greenwood Solutions) – “Agrivoltaics from an energy sector perspective”
  • Bow Souter (Innovation Broker, Victoria Drought Resilience Adoption & Innovation Hub, Uni Melbourne) – “Key stakeholder opinions about plant production agrivoltaics: Pros and cons”
